Mark 15:42-47 ESV
And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the SabbathJoseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died. And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the corpse to Joseph. And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid.
SERMON NOTES
I. THE COURAGE OF NEVERTHELESS
“courage” | tolmaó (τολμάω) | “to dare, to act boldly in the face of direct, imminent personal danger, to do something that carries massive, irreversible consequences.”
“Corpse” | ptóma (πτῶμα) | “a carcass, a lifeless body”
Faithfulness is not defined by your ability to change the outcome; it is defined by your willingness to show up and honor God even in the midst of the ruin.
Reflect: What is the one act of faithfulness in your situation that you have been postponing?
II. THE LOYALTY OF NEVERTHELESS
“Saw” | theóreó (θεωρέω) | “fixed, careful, deliberate observation.”
Reflect: Are you on a Saturday season of your life?
Faithfulness is not just found in the moments when you are marching forward, conquering territory, and winning spiritual victories. Faithfulness is found when you are entirely helpless, yet you refuse to leave the room.
III. THE SILENCE OF NEVERTHELESS
The silence of God is never the absence of God.
Reflect: Can you trust God in your Saturday silence?
