The Smart Family

A home built by God is not just a smart home, it is a happy home.

Sermon Title: THE SMART FAMILY

Sermon Text: PSALM 127

Sermon Series: FAMILY PORTRAIT: GOD’S DESIGN FOR A HEALTHY HOME

Sermon Notes:

Psalm 127

A song of ascents. Of Solomon.
1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to[a] those he loves.
3 Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court.

PSALMS 127:1 ESV

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.
1 Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

A home built by God is not just a smart home, it is a happy home.

A SMART FAMILY RELIES ON GOD.

Only God can build a godly home.

God wants to be a part of every part of our life.

The most important factor in building a home is our walk with God.

A SMART FAMILY RESTS IN GOD.

PSALMS 127:1-2 ESV

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.
1 Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Solomon admonishes us to distinguish the difference between what is vain and what is valuable. Between what is worthless and what is worthwhile.

A SMART FAMILY IS ROOTED BY GOD.

PSALMS 127:3-5 ESV

3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

Biblical instructions for children:

EPHESIANS 6:1-3 ESV

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

2 TIMOTHY 3:1-2 ESV

1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy…
