Your Kingdom Come

When we pray “Your kingdom come,” we must of necessity also pray, “My kingdom go.”

Sermon Title: YOUR KINGDOM COME

Scripture Text: MATTHEW 6:10

Sermon Series: THE KING AND HIS KINGDOM

Sermon Notes:

MATTHEW 6:10 NIV

10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

A kingdom is someone’s sphere of control.

PSALMS 47:2 NIV

2 How awesome is the LORD Most High, the great King over all the earth!

1 CHRONICLES 29:11-12 NIV

11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.
12 Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.

The kingdom of God is “already, but not yet.”

MATTHEW 6:10 NIV

10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

WE AFFIRM GOD’S RULE IN OUR LIVES

PROVERBS 20:24 NIV

24 A man’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?

HEBREWS 12:28-29 NIV

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

You and I can live for this world or we can live for the kingdom of God.

When we pray “Your kingdom come,” we must of necessity also pray, “My kingdom go.”

Application:
What changes should be evident in our lives to show that our priority has moved from “my kingdom” to “God’s kingdom”?

If the kingdom of God is not first, it doesn’t matter what’s second.

WE DECLARE THAT GOD’S WILL IS BEST

JEREMIAH 29:11 NIV |

11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

God’s will is always best but sometimes, it’s not quite what we expect (or want).

MATTHEW 26:39 NIV

39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Application:
Are you living in the will of God today? Or are you out of his will?

There is no failure in God’s will, and no success outside of God’s will.

WE DESIRE GOD’S KINGDOM HERE ON EARTH

1 Timothy 2:3-4

3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

“Lord, may your kingdom come, may your will be done in my life.
Nothing more,
Nothing less,
Nothing else.
Amen.”
